Sleep… Oh how I’ve missed you

After a few months absence from blogging I now return. Lately I have been occupied by the process of my wife giving birth, dirty nappies, cuddles and dirty nappies. In that order.

Having started a new job at the beginning of the year I couldn’t take much leave when the baby came along. After a few days off I was back at work full time while having a six or seven day old baby at home.

I must be clear - my wife certainly does the lioness’ share of the night duties. However our baby is bunked in our bedroom. So even the non feeding seemingly snoring dad can have disturbed sleep.

Managing full time work on limited sleep is something I now know a thing or two about.

How do you avoid being a zombie in the office? Here are my tips:

  1. Berocca really does give you back your b b bounce. It is not a miracle anecdote but it does give you a short energy boost. I recommend having some about 15 minutes before your meeting with your boss.
  2. Eat fruit and vegetables – an oldie but a goodie.
  3. I am a self confessed coffee addict – but don’t go crazy on the caffeine. Three a day is my absolute limit.
  4. If the baby goes to sleep at 8pm so should you. Don’t stay up watching NCIS. It is not worth it!
